If it's not the best help, it's not really much help at all...

If you don't think you're getting the best help for you, then shop around. This paraphrased summary of my last 3 sessions with my current counsellor (that I used to demonstrate to a friend what it's been like) is why I'll be moving on to another:

'hey Doc, I have problem A... but now that we think about it, B and C are hanging around too... and in many ways are probably more the root of A in the first place for reasons X, Y Z.'

'now hold on, problem A, you say? well let's see... hmm it seems you have tricks up your sleeve for A so I'm at a loss as to why you're here...'

'okay well B and C sometimes...'

'yeah but you said A is your problem... let's focus on that. Except you don't seem to need it'

'right so can we please look at...'

'A... this says A.'

She's not bad, she's quite lovely. She's just not who I need right now.

I have only gotten 2 useful things from her, which is more than I had before:
a) my frustration caused from the inability to separate sounds may be due to Audio Processing, and I can be tested/undergo treatment if necessary.
b) "You can be kind to yourself, you know."
